Coaches LetterDear Supporters of Taunton Hockey, Another season of Taunton Hockey has concluded. Endings are bittersweet and never how we would truly want them to be. This year’s team battled adversity from the beginning that spanned youth and inexperience to season-ending injuries. As a result of a relentless work ethic the team managed to win 13 games, make a post-season appearance, upset a league opponent, and earn several individual accolades. Success does result from luck. The team showed a character that has not been seen much in the history of Taunton Hockey. There was an emotional toughness and a brotherhood that could not be matched. There is something to be said for that type of bond that can propel a group forward and to new heights. This made the team a joy to come to rink to coach every day. Taunton Hockey is more than the high school. It is a wide-ranging community. Over the last decade, through immense effort and perseverance, the Taunton Hockey Community has grown close together to provide as many opportunities for youth players. “It takes a village to raise a child” may sound cliché, but it is true. The coaching staff, Face-off Club, alumni, and parents have worked together to improve funding, on-ice opportunities, and off-ice development for each child that goes through the Taunton Hockey program to develop into responsible and passionate young person ready to take on the world upon graduation.] Hockey is family, and teammates become brothers. The self-sacrifice and commitment to a cause bigger than there own creates an everlasting bond that links teammates together long after their days of lacing up the skates. I cannot be more appreciative of the commitment of all stakeholders surrounding these young men that wish to see this same vision come true. Wins, losses, goals, saves become far less important down the road, when all that mattered was when a player was down, felt alone, or faced failure, that he had someone next to him to support him along his journey. The road may have come to an end for this season’s team, but the memories created along the way will not be forgotten. Thank you to the seniors #9, #11, #16, #19, #47 for the commitment to the Taunton Hockey community. Your contributions and leadership never went unnoticed and your team-building legacy will reverberate for years to come in the young players that looked up to you. For the returning eligible players, a new road awaits; one with more challenges and successes along the way. On behalf of the Taunton High School Hockey Program, and this year’s coaching staff, I would like to thank the Face-Off Club, the parents, the families, the Alumni, and the local community of Taunton for its support of young hockey players! As always, enjoy the journey. Sincerely, Coach Metea Head Coach Taunton High School |
