Thursday 1/23- Taunton v Oliver Ames (away) 

Boys Swim team: Taunton 81- Oliver Ames 77
The Tigers (4-2) were victorious against league opponent Oliver Ames in a close contest that came down to the final race.  
  • The 200 medley relay team of Brady Callahan, Jonathan Trinh, Martin Dafov and Matthew Heather placed first.
  • Callahan placed first in the 200 free and 100 back.
  • Dafov placed first in the 100 breast and second in the 200 individual medley.
  • Garrett Rainey placed first in the 50 free and second in the 500 free.
  • Matthew Heather placed second in the 100 free and second in the 100 breast.
  • The 200 free relay team of Hector Aponte, Thomas Hunt, Edwin Jean and Keenan Daley finished second.
  • The 400 free relay team of Callahan, Rainey, Dafov and Heather also finished first.
The Boys Swim team will compete in Hockomock Championships on Friday, January 31st at Milford High School.


Girls Swim team: Taunton 65 - Oliver Ames 95
The lady Tigers (1-5) lost to undefeated league opponent Oliver Ames.
  • Angelina Lynch placed second in the 200 free and second in the 100 free.
  • Marisa Gay placed second in the 200 individual medley.
  • Jacalin Gallagher placed second in the 100 back.
  • Macey Jorge placed second in the 100 breast.
  • The 200 free relay team of Gay, Mila Dafov, Jorge and Lynch finished second.
  • The 400 free relay team of Gay, Gallagher, Jorge and Lynch finished first.
The girls swim team will compete in Hockomock Championships on Saturday, February 1st at Milford High School.

Taunton, 21 @ Mansfield, 49 – Final – The Hornets shut out Taunton in the first quarter and held the Tigers to just 10 points through three quarters to pull out the win.  Lily Patneaude had five points and Alexa White had four in the loss.

Hockey

Taunton, 9 @ Stoughton, 4 – Final – Taunton senior defenseman Dylan Nichols scored two of his three goals in the first period and Camden Faria netted a pair in the first as the Tigers built a 5-1 lead after a period and never looked back. Nichols and Stoughton’s Sean Doherty traded goals to start the game but the Tigers scored four straight to take a big lead. Taunton’s Cam Sneyd had three assists in the opening period. Sean Doherty scored twice for Black Knights.

Wrestling

Hockomock Super Quad (Foxboro)- The Tigers traveled to Foxboro for the new league quad meet. The Tigers went 0-3 for the day against Stoughton (15-60), Foxboro (3-60), Canton (21-52). Winners for the Tigers are 120 Tyler Lima, 145 Jackson Mandeville, 160 Candido Santos (1 Pin), 182 Ryan Silva, 195 Jackson Wellman (2-1), 285 Mason Frank.

Taunton, 3 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final – Taunton’s Mike Albert scored twice and the Tigers built a 3-1 lead in the third period but Foxboro rallied for two unanswered goals to grab a point and a tie. Kirk Leach brought the Warriors within one and senior Brendan Tully tied the game with a power play goal.

Wrestling

Mansfield, 66 @ Taunton, 6 – Final – Mansfield’s Max Farley (113), Antonios Sevastos (120), Andy Triantafilopoulos (126), Stefan Steyn (138), CJ Glaropoulos (152), George Glaropoulos (160), Jayden Curley (182), Shane Cremmen (195), and Noah Jellenik (285) each had pinfall wins for the Hornets.

Girls Basketball

Taunton, 46 @ Attleboro, 60 – Final – Attleboro used a balanced offensive attack to pull out the division win at home. Liv McCall paced the Bombardiers with 12, but she got a lot of help from Kenzie Roberts and Emma Reilly, who each scored 11. Ryan Johnson and Gabby Bosh also played well off the Attleboro bench, according to coach Marty Crowley. Sonya Fernandez led the Tigers with 14 and Tori DeRosa chipped in with 10.

Ice Hockey

Oliver Ames, 9 @ Taunton, 2 – Final – Oliver Ames senior Colin Bourne recorded five points to pace the visiting Tigers to a win over Taunton. Bourne scored a hat trick and added two assists while senior Brett Williams (goal, three assists), junior Jake Gottwald (goal, three assists), and junior Hunter Costello (two goals, two assists) each had four points. Junior Duncan Pereira scored his first career goal while junior goalie Owen Connor made 15 saves for the win.

Wrestling

Cape Cod Invitational (Taunton) – Taunton had three grapplers place third or better and finished with 63 points as a team to take ninth place as a team. Junior Woudanly Danger (285) took second overall, losing by decision 3-1 in the finals. Christian Balmain (152) and Candido Santos (160) each earned third place finishes for the Tigers.

Franklin, 4 @ Taunton, 1 – Final – Franklin scored twice in each the first and second periods to earn two points on the road against Taunton. Colin Hedvig and Matt Holmes scored in the first period for the Panthers while Shane McCaffrey and Scott Elliott tallied goals in the second period.

Wrestling

Quincy Quad (Taunton) – Taunton went 3-0 on the day, picking up wins over Durfee (54-18), Bellingham (60-24), and host Quincy (39-30). Xavier Sandoval (132, pin), Jackson Mandeville (138), Christian Balmain (152, three pins), Devin Wilson (220, two pins), and Mason Frank (285, 1 pin) each went 3-0 on the day to pace the Tigers. Brandon Mendes (106), Tyler Lima (120), Logan Frank(145, 1 pin)Candido Santos (160, pin),Jackson Wellman (182, 1 pin), and Avery Justa (195, two pins) each had a pair of wins.

Girls Basketball

Oliver Ames, 63 @ Taunton, 51 – Final – OA pulled away late in a close game that featured a lot of runs from both sides and moved to 2-0 on the season. Senior All Scolnick paced OA with 22 points and classmate Sadie Homer ran the game at the point for the Tigers. Taunton was led by Jaelyn Fernandez with 17 points and Sonya Fernandez with 12.

Boys Swim

Foxboro, 36 @ Taunton, 49 – Final – A sophomore, a freshman, and an eighth grader all won a pair of events to lead the Tigers to a win in their first meet of the season. Sophomore Garrett Rainey won both the 200 free and the 500 free, freshman Tim Luc won the 200 IM (2:20.92) and the 100 fly (59.12), and eighth grader Gerald Grealish touched first in the 100 free (59.21) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.13). Taunton’s 200 medley relay of Brady Callahan, Peter Ye, Tim Luc, and Martin Dafov and 400 free relay of Callahan, Grealish, Ye, and Luc both took first. The Warriors took first and second in the 200 relay with Ben Dorman, Thomas Perry, Dimitrios Davis, and Thomas VanDell taking first in 1:57 and the team of Jared Roke, Kris Andersen, Spencer SanBento, and Joseph St. Pierre coming in second. VanDell added a second place finish in the 50 free for Foxboro.

Girls Swim

Foxboro, 53 @ Taunton, 41 – Final – Foxboro took first place in six individual races and one relay race to earn a victory over Taunton. Pam Nelson and Lindsey Nelson earned a pair of wins, with Pam touching first in the 200 IM (2:31) and the 100 free (1:02) and Lindsey winning the 500 free (6:21) and 100 breaststroke (1:24), Sarah Egan won the 200 free (2:29) and Gina Ouellette earned first in the 100 fly (1:14). Foxboro’s 200 relay team of Nelson, Nelson, Ooullette and Egan earned first in 2:01. For Taunton, freshman Angelina Lynch won the 50 free (27.12) and eighth grader Tiffany Ye won the 100 backstroke (1:09.42). Taunton’s 200 medley relay of Jacalin Gallagher, Ye, Marisa Gay, and Lynch and the 400 free relay of Gallagher, Macey Jorge, Gay, and Ye both took first place.

Dias, a freshman, had a solid indoor track season for the Tigers ... was a part of the 4x400 relay team that placed second in the Hockomock League championship and seventh at the Division I state meet ... ran the 600 (1:38.73) and placed third overall in the freshmen/sophomore meet ... also took second in the league meet, eighth in the Division I meet and 10th at states ... first-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... a Hockomock League all-star.
Victoria Gravel, Taunton
Gravel, a sophomore, was a versatile athlete for the Tigers this past winter ... had an impressive third place in the 55 hurdles at the Hockomock League meet ... also finished fourth at Division I meet and 10th at States ... took fourth in the long jump (17′6.5) at the freshmen/sophomore meet ... she placed third at the Coaches Invitational, fifth at the Hockomock League championship and sixth place at the Division I meet ... multiple Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... Hockomock League all-star
Maggie Sullivan, Taunton
Sullivan, a junior captain, stepped up her game this past winter for the Tigers ... named the Hockomock League champion in the 1,000 meter (3:11) ... placed ninth at the Division I meet ... ran a 5:36 in the mile ... multiple Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... performed well at the MSTCA state Coaches Invitational meet ... an honors and advanced placement student
Sam Tichelaar, Taunton
Tichelaar, a senior, concluded a successful winter track career for Taunton ... placed third in the 300 (42.23) and fifth at the Division I meet ... had a leap of 17′6 in both the Hockomock League championship (fourth place) and Division I (third place) ... anchored the 4x400 relay team that placed second at the Hockomock League championship and seventh at Division I states ... three-year captain ... multiple Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... going to Amherst College for track and field.

Coach of the Year:
Jeffrey Moore, Taunton
Moore led the Lady Tigers to their best season in 10 years. Taunton finished the year 4-1, including impressive wins against league opponent King Philip, Mansfield, Oliver Ames and Attleboro. The Tigers finished third in the Hockomock League meet out of 12 teams. Moore was also surrounded by outstanding coaches Jason Torres, Jessica Charlesworth, Shaina Vickery, Chris Greding and Danny DeMello. This is Moore’s first Taunton Daily Gazette Coaches All-Scholastic honors.

Patneaude, a junior guard, was one of the steady players for the Tigers this season ... despite missing several games, she led Taunton in scoring with 9.3 points per game ... added 4.7 rebounds, two steals per game and 1.7 assists per game ... played consistent both offensively and defensively ... a two-time Hockomock League all-star ... two-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic.

Boys Hockey


Player of the Year: Will Walsh, Taunton
Walsh had a season to remember for the Tigers this past winter.
The senior forward led the Hockomock League in points scored (49).
He finished with 24 goals and 25 assists.
Walsh helped lead Taunton to its first playoff win in 24 years, third consecutive state tournament appearance and first South semifinal since 1994.
Walsh, a four-year letterman, was named a league all-star and voted the Tigers’ Most Valuable Player. The Taunton resident finished his career with 34 goals, 51 assists and 85 points overall, which is 14th all-time. Walsh was ranked fourth in Division II and 15th in Massachusetts.
He received the 7th Player Award three years ago for going above and beyond.
Walsh, a Hockomock League all-star, plans to enlist in the United States Marine Corp after graduation.
Coach of the Year: Kris Metea, Taunton
Metea and his coaching staff helped lead the Tigers to their first South semifinals appearances, two playoff wins and first tournament win since in 1994. Taunton reached the postseason for the third consecutive year, just the second time in program history. Metea’s team finished with a 13-10-2 record (without two exclusion games). His graduation class recorded a four-year total of 47, which is the fourth most by a graduation class. He established a free youth clinic for Taunton area youth players.

Mike Albert, Taunton
Albert, a sophomore and assistant captain, had a solid season for the Tigers this past winter ... finished the season with 17 goals, 15 assists and 32 points ... helped lead Taunton to its first postseason win since 1994 ... named Rookie of the Year two seasons ago ... member of the lacrosse team ... a first-team Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic.

Jakob Roberts, Taunton
Roberts, a senior forward, concluded his final season in style for the Tigers this past winter ... concluded with 11 goals, 13 assists for 24 points ... finished his career with 21 goals, 43 assists and 64 points, tied for 28th all-time ... team captain ... helped lead Taunton to its first postseason win since 1994 ... four-year letterman ... voted Steve Matthews Most Improved Player ... two-year varsity baseball player ... a first-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... attending Bridgewater State University next fall.
Cam Sneyd, Taunton
Sneyd, a junior forward, had a successful year for the Tigers this past winter ... finished the year with 12 goals. 18 assists and 30 points ... helped lead Taunton to its first postseason win since 1994 ... three-year letterman and team captain ... was the recipient of the Coaches Award in 2015-16 ... won the Hobey Baker Character Award ... was the Henshaw-Soderberg Leadership Award recipient ... a first-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic.
