Boys HockeyPlayer of the Year: Will Walsh, Taunton Walsh had a season to remember for the Tigers this past winter. The senior forward led the Hockomock League in points scored (49). He finished with 24 goals and 25 assists. Walsh helped lead Taunton to its first playoff win in 24 years, third consecutive state tournament appearance and first South semifinal since 1994. Walsh, a four-year letterman, was named a league all-star and voted the Tigers’ Most Valuable Player. The Taunton resident finished his career with 34 goals, 51 assists and 85 points overall, which is 14th all-time. Walsh was ranked fourth in Division II and 15th in Massachusetts. He received the 7th Player Award three years ago for going above and beyond. Walsh, a Hockomock League all-star, plans to enlist in the United States Marine Corp after graduation. Coach of the Year: Kris Metea, Taunton Metea and his coaching staff helped lead the Tigers to their first South semifinals appearances, two playoff wins and first tournament win since in 1994. Taunton reached the postseason for the third consecutive year, just the second time in program history. Metea’s team finished with a 13-10-2 record (without two exclusion games). His graduation class recorded a four-year total of 47, which is the fourth most by a graduation class. He established a free youth clinic for Taunton area youth players. First team Mike Albert, Taunton Albert, a sophomore and assistant captain, had a solid season for the Tigers this past winter ... finished the season with 17 goals, 15 assists and 32 points ... helped lead Taunton to its first postseason win since 1994 ... named Rookie of the Year two seasons ago ... member of the lacrosse team ... a first-team Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic. Jakob Roberts, Taunton Roberts, a senior forward, concluded his final season in style for the Tigers this past winter ... concluded with 11 goals, 13 assists for 24 points ... finished his career with 21 goals, 43 assists and 64 points, tied for 28th all-time ... team captain ... helped lead Taunton to its first postseason win since 1994 ... four-year letterman ... voted Steve Matthews Most Improved Player ... two-year varsity baseball player ... a first-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic ... attending Bridgewater State University next fall. Will Walsh - Third TeamTaunton senior forward Will Walsh lived up to his billing as a preseason player to watch by piling up the points for the Tigers this year. Walsh, who came back to the program after spending time in juniors, scored 24 goals and had 25 assists and was one of the league’s top point-getters this season while leading Taunton on a run to the Div. 2 South semifinal. With a strong shot and never shying away from a hit, Walsh gave Taunton an emotional spark throughout the season. “Will is an incredible athlete and emotional player that will work hard to light a spark for the team and help the team succeed,” said Taunton coach Kris Metea. “His desire to succeed on the ice and determination to do so is unmatched by many other players I worked with.” Mike Albert - All Underclassmen TeamAlbert, a sophomore forward, was among the league’s top offensive threats this season with 32 points, including 17 goals and 15 assists, as Taunton made a run to the D2 South semifinal.
