BaseballSoftballTaunton, 7 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final – Jaylin Couto earned her fourth win of the season with a complete game, striking out eight. Jaime Brown was 2-for-4 for the Tigers with three runs scored and one RBI. Taunton also got a pair of hits from McKenzie McAloon and Payton Ceglarski and one hit and two RBI from Kya Enos. The Hornets had seven hits as a team and had base runners in all but the first inning, but couldn’t find the big hit with runners on base. Sydney Woods and Mady Bendanillo each went 2-for-3 and Caty DeMassi, Ella Verheggen, and Mary Muldoon each had one hit for Mansfield. Boys LacrosseTaunton, 3 @ Coyle & Cassidy, 7, 6:30 Girls LacrosseBoys TennisTaunton, 2 @ Mansfield, 3 – Final – Mansfield grabbed one win in singles play and swept doubles play to edge Taunton. Luke Nickerson won 6-4, 6-3 at first singles, the team of Jalaj Singh and Sethu won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles, and Danny Radev and Ben Selden won 6-2, 6-0 at second doubles. Taunton’s Brett Beaulieu won 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles and Mike Briggs notched a 6-4, 6-1 win at third singles. Girls TennisMansfield, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 vs. Brockton, 0 – Final – Taunton’s Ricardo DaFonseca had 36 assists, including the 1,000th of his career, to help set the Tigers up for a win over Brockton.
BaseballTaunton, 7 @ Canton, 0 – Final – Taunton’s Trevor Pietrzyk (two doubles, triple) set the tone, going 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot with an RBI and a run scored as the Tigers notched a win on the road. Jakob Roberts added two hits and two RBI while Ben Joyce drove in a pair of runs. Tyler Medeiros and Jacob Crawford each had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers. Medeiros got the win on the mound, scattering three hits over five innings of work with five strikeouts. Brendan Bignar and Logan Lawrence each tossed a scoreless inning in relief. SoftballCanton, 0 @ Taunton, 13 – Final (5 Inn.) – Taunton sophomore Jaylin Couto struck out 10 while allowing just two hits and one walk to help the Tigers notch a win over visiting Canton. Couto improved to 3-0 with five scoreless innings. Offensively, Kelsey White went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and a stolen base, Kya Enos had two hits including a double, a run scored and an RBI, Abbie McDonough recorded two hits, scored three runs, stole a base, and had an RBI, and freshman McKenzie McAloon drove in three runs for the Tigers. Girls LacrosseTaunton, 2 @ King Philip, 19 – Final – KP used nine different goal scorers to put an end to it two-game losing streak. Alli Meehan (one assist), Caroline Klim, Mackenzie Mazur, and Ali Wilson all recorded hat tricks for the Warriors, while Jess Sullivan scored a pair. Izzy Agricola, Jenna Hitchen (one assist), Olivia Tormey, and Dana Truini also scored for KP. Girls TennisTaunton, 3 @ Canton, 2 – Final – Taunton’s first doubles pairing of McKenzie Lucie and Samantha Martin overcame a one-set deficit to record the third and final point to help the Tigers beat Canton. Lucie and Martin won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 while Taunton’s second doubles team of Amanda Pugh and Brianna Fevrier won 6-0, 6-3 at second doubles. Freshman Jocelyn Pagliuca won 6-4, 6-3 at third singles for Taunton. Canton freshman Natalie Keppler won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles and classmate Rachel Kupferman didn’t lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles. Boys TennisCanton, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – Taunton picked up its second straight win by sweeping visiting Sharon, taking all three singles matches in straight sets without dropping a game. Francois Hennaux (first singles), Brett Beaulieu (second singles) and Mike Briggs (third singles) all won 6-0, 6-0. The team of Charlie Fiske and Dylan Kulas won 6-3, 6-2 at first doubles while Kyle Dennehy and Alex Pugh prevailed 5-7, 6-4, 10-1 at second doubles. Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 @ New Bedford, 0 – Final – Taunton went on the road and returned with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-17) win over New Bedford. Lens Esquil notched 11 kills and four blocks, Collin Hunter added five kills and four blocks, Malik Charles chipped in with four kills and a pair of blocks, and Alex Tavares notched four kills and a block. Freshman Tyler Stewart recorded his first two career kills in the win.
BaseballFoxboro, 0 @ Taunton, 3 – Final – Taunton junior Jack Moynihan struck out nine batters without allowing a walk or a run in 6.2 innings of work to help the Tigers beat visiting Foxboro. The Tigers pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on one more in the fourth inning. Evan Melo had two hits for the Tigers while Sean Quinlan and Jacob Crawford each had an RBI. Foxboro’s Michael Devlin went 2-for-3 on the day. SoftballTaunton, 16 @ Foxboro, 1 – Final (5 inn.) – Taunton senior Kya Enos went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs and sophomore Payton Ceglarski had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI as the Tigers notched a big win on the road. McKenzie McAloon went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Mackenzie Handrahan had two hits, including a double, and knocked in a pair of runs, and Jaime Brown and Kelsey White each had two hits and an RBI. Alexa White earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits while striking out eight. Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 vs. Greater New Bedford, 0 – Final – Taunton defended home court, sweeping visiting Greater New Bedford 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 to qualify for the state tournament. The Tigers had a strong defensive game, totaling 13 blocks as a team. Collin Hunter and Alex Tavares each picked up four blocks apiece while Jason Khang and Gage Kingman both played well in the back row.
Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 @ Dighton-Rehoboth, 0 – Final – Gage Kingman had 15 digs and 13 service points to help Taunton notch a 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-9) win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Collin Hunter and Lens Esquil paced the Tigers with nine kills apiece while Lance Law finished with seven kills.
SoftballTaunton, 15 @ New Bedford, 0 – Final (5 inn.) – Sisters Kelsey and Alexa White combined for a one-hit shutout as Taunton picked up a win on the road at New Bedford. Kelsey White went three innings with two strikeouts and one hit while Alexa White struck out three in two innings. Offensively, Payton Ceglarski was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Kya Enos had three hits, including a home run, and seven RBI to pace the Tigers. Mackenzie Handrahan, Liana Duarte (RBI), Hannah Aldrich (two stolen bases) and Kelsey White (RBI, stolen base) all had two hits for Taunton while Paige Silvia launched a two-run home run. Boys LacrosseTaunton, 0 @ New Bedford, 9 – Final Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 @ Quincy, 0 – Final – Taunton continued its strong start with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) on the road at Quincy. Lens Esquil landed 14 kills and added two blocks, Lance Law added 12 kills, a block, and an ace and Mile Charles finished with eight kills and two kills. Ricardo DaFonseca set the offense in motion with 45 assists, three kills, and an ance.
SoftballBaseballTaunton, 5 @ Milford, 2 – Final – Taunton senior Tyler Medeiros allowed just four hits in five-plus innings of work, striking out seven with two runs allowed to earn the win. Taunton scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, added another run in the fifth inning, and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Josh Lajoie (save), Christian Simoes, and Jacob Crawford each had two hits for Taunton while Jack Moynihan had a two-RBI triple in the fourth inning. For Milford, Danny Corsini allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work with three strikeouts. Colby Pires (RBI) and Matt Shaver (walk, two runs) each had a pair of hits for the Hawks. Boys TennisMilford, 0 @ Taunton, 5 – Final – Taunton’s Mike Briggs (third singles) and Alex Pugh and Trevor Hart (second doubles) each won in straight sets without dropping a game to pace the Tigers. Vanessa Rosa won 6-1, 6-0 at second doubles and Jocelyn Pagliuca took a 6-2, 6-1 decision at third singles. The team of McKenzie Lurie and Sam Martin dropped just one game (6-0, 6-1) at first doubles and Amanda Pugh and Brianna Ferrier did the same (6-1, 6-0) in a win at second doubles. Milford’s Julie Rabinowitz won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles. Boys VolleyballTaunton, 3 @ Brockton, 0 – Final – Taunton picked up a convincing win on the road behind a balanced attack. Malik Charles had a team-high eight kills while Alex Tavares (four blocks), Lens Esquil (three blocks), and Lance Law (four aces) all registered seven kills. Ricardo DaFonseca finished with 32 assists for the Tigers. Girls LacrosseNorth Attleboro, 16 @ Taunton, 0 – Final – North Attleboro had eight different goal scorers, as new coach Colleen Carchedi gets her first win on her Rocketeers debut. Kayla Moulin earned the shutout in net. Alana Tavares grabbed two draw controls for the Tigers, while Hannah Moniz and Rosemary McGrath each had three ground balls.
Boys TennisTaunton, 5 @ Coyle & Cassidy, 0 – Final – Taunton picked its first win of the season with a pair of singles players winning in straight sets without dropping a game. Senior Francois Hennaux notched his first win at first singles (7-5, 6-0) while junior Brett Beaulieu and Mike Briggs each won 6-0, 6-0 at second and third singles, respectively. The team of Charlie Fiske and Dylan Kullas took a 6-3, 6-3 decision at first doubles while Kyle Dennehy and Trevor Hart earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at second doubles. Taunton moved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-7, 25-11, 25-15) win over visting Durfee. Senior Collin Hunter paced the attack with a team-high 11 kills along with three blocks and an ace. Taunton coach Toby Chaperon noted Alex Tavares (three kills, four blocks) played well at the net for the Tigers and both Gage Kingman and Jason Khang had excellent games defensively. Lens Esquil added nine kills, five blocks, and an ace for Taunton. |
